Meditation

We have been talking together our problems. I think we ought to talk the very complex problem of what is meditation.
This word is now becoming so common. Even the doctors are begining to use it. Business people are trying to meditate in order to become quiet so that they can do better bussines.
We are examining the whole question of what is meditation. But not how to meditate. If you ask how am I to meditate, then you will find a system. The how implies a method. If you are enquiring into this question of what is meditation, then you never ask how to meditate. Because the questioning is the begining of meditation.
One must be careful that meditation is not someting you do. First of all meditation is a movement into the whole question of our living. That is how we live, how we behave, whether we have fears, whether we have built images about ourselves.
First we must understand the importance of the senses. If you observe yourself you will see that one or the other of the senses become dominant. Now is it possible for the senses to operate as a whole? Because most of us operate on partial senses. We never live with all our senses fully awekened. We have to give the senses their right place, which means not suppressing them, not controlling them, not running away from them, but to give the proper place to senses. If all senses are functioning healthily then the body becomes very quiet.
